William Leslie Carr, known as Les, operated several garages in Saranac Lake, including the Main Line Garage on River Street.

He is buried in Pine Ridge Cemetery as W. Leslie Carr.

SARANAC LAKE — William "Les" Carr, 84, of 49 Riverside Drive, died at the Veteran's Hospital, Albany, at 7 o'clock Sunday night following a long illness.

Mr. Carr was born in New York City Nov. 28, 1894, a son of Keith and Emma Bowles Carr. His family came to Saranac Lake in 1900 and occupied the home, now owned by John Morgan, next to the Saranac Lake Free Library. Later Mr. Carr's mother opened the "Carr" cure cottage on Park Avenue.

Mr. Carr attended the Saranac Lake schools and graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology at Pittsburgh, majoring in electrical engineering.

He returned to Saranac Lake and opened several garages. The last was the Main Line Garage on River Street which he operated with two partners, the late Lew Wheat and Halsey Barber. He retired in 1959.

He is survived by his wife, the former Blanche Castle Griswold of Saranac Lake, a step-daughter, Mrs. Sally Griswold Tyldesley of Adams, N.Y., four grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Edna Cardy of Saranac Lake.

Mr. Carr was a life member of Whiteface Mountain Masonic Lodge No. 789, a life member of American Legion Post 447, a charter member of the Veterans of World War I. He was also a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 1508 and a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Calling hours will be tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fortune Funeral Home. The American Legion will hold a service at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Fortune's with the Rev. John McClester, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery.
