William Tanzini, Sr., was the son of Pietro Tanzini; he was a World War II veteran. He worked in construction, and was an avid outdoorsman.

SARANAC LAKE - William J. Tanzini, 74, of Donaldson Road, Lake Clear, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1996 at Adirondack Medical Center here.

Born Sept. 13, 1922 in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Peter and Augusta (Menzel) Tanzini. He married the former Mary Leona Donaldson on Feb. 15, 1942.

A lifelong resident of the Lake Clear area, Mr. Tanzini was employed by Elliot Construction Co. and later the Charles Fisher Construction Co. until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Tanzini was a veteran of WWII and participated in the occupation of Japan with the Army Engineers. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and snowmobiling.

Survivors include his wife; one son, William Tanzini Jr. and a daughter, Carolyn Moody, both of Saranac Lake; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Tanzini McCarthy of Deland, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, Saranac Lake, which is in charge of the arrangements.
