Welcome to the Wiki! This is a very basic introduction for people who are new to the Wiki to get a handle on what Ithaca Wiki is all about. Basically, we're a community working together to create and compile anything and everything about Ithaca, New York — especially the little, enjoyable things. We are fairly new to the Ithaca scene and are trying to build and improve.

This entire site is maintained by the people who use it: anyone can edit this website. Note that because the wiki is currently small we don't even require you to create a user account. So you can basically start editing any web page on the site right now. There are many other people all doing the same thing, all generally friendly and eager to help. We would love you to join us.

See our Events Index page for year indexed information.

Here are some helpful hints that we've found useful for new members:

  1. To protect your privacy (so that your IP adress is not displayed when you leave a comment) and to prevent spamming, we now require users to log in before they edit. No worries, this is super easy and described in the Ithaca Wiki user guide

  2. If something on a page is incorrect, in a comment or not, it is helpful to clarify it in a way that fits with the rest of the page. Editing can do this better than leaving another comment. Please see Ithaca Wiki user guide for help with editing, or visit the edit page on Wiki Spot.

  3. We are all still learning how to make this the best wiki for Ithaca possible. Feel Free to Leave comments.

  4. The Importance of using your RealName cannot be underestimated.

  5. Comments are the easiest, and least intimidating way to edit, and is really popular amongst wiki beginners. For example a very common first edit is leaving a comment on a restaurant page.

  6. When you leave a review or comment keep in mind that it will reflect on you as much as on the business or other page you are reviewing.

  7. Don't feel like you have to create a whole new entry with your first edit. Many editors contribute by doing the tiny fixes and grooming of existing entries, like spelling or grammar.

  8. The goal is not to present a neutral point of view, but rather to reflect that in our community there are differing opinions and viewpoints. These view points come together to create balanced pages.
