Menomonie Municipal Airport

 

Menomonie Municipal is a Transport/Corporate classification airport owned by the City of Menomonie.  It is located on the east edge of the city integral with the industrial park.  Its east-west runway is 5,100' x 75' and the north-south runway is 3,470' x 75' with a full length parallel taxiway on the east-west runway; both are hard surfaced.   Airport elevation is 895' MSL.  Left pattern altitude for all aircraft is 1,900' MSL.  Runways 09/27 and 18/36 have pilot controlled Medium Intensity Runway Lights (MIRL) on 122.7.  There are also Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) lights and Runway End Identifier Lights (REIL) for 09/27.  Runway 09/27 has Low Intensity Runway Lights (LIRL), on from dusk to dawn.  The beacon and wind sock are also lighted dusk to dawn.  The wind sock and wind "T" are located midfield on the north side of 09/27.  Instrument approach GPS is available from EAU VOR-DME runway 27.   A terminal building provides public heated shelter, rest room, information, and telephone 24-hours per day.  An airport courtesy car to food, lodging and other facilities is available.  Twenty-three hangar spaces house general aviation aircraft.  Hangars and sites are available for rent, purchase or construction.

 

 

The Airport was established with money, time and in-kind contributions from a group of local individuals and organizations.  During its initial stages (1984 – 1988) the airport was owned by the non-profit corporation, Menomonie Airport, Inc.  Menomonie Airport, Inc. dissolved in 1988 after selling the Airport to the City of Menomonie for the price of $1.00.

 

 

 Gibson Aviation, located on the Airport, is a full service aeronautical company. The company provides: Self-serve or attended 100 LL aviation gasoline at $3.819 per gallon and jet A fuel at $2.349 per gallon; flight instruction; inspection, maintenance and repair; service and sales; operations management of the airport. 

 

 

The City of Menomonie has a population of 16,130 and the County of Dunn is 40,315. Menomonie Municipal Airport is the home for 23 aircraft and is frequently used by corporations including: Anderson Window, Cardinal Glass, ICM (Ethanol Plant), Fagen (Ethanol Plant), 3M, ConAgra Foods, Phillips Plastics, Wal-Mart and Menards.  Other traffic includes the Air National Guard and the Governor’s Office.

 

 

Airport improvements are ongoing.  The Airport Commission recently purchased a bi-directional tractor to support snow removal operations.  Other future improvements include the installation of an approach lighting system and renovating the airport terminal.  The Airport Commission in conjunction with the Bureau of Aeronautics is also pursuing the establishment of a WAAS GPS precision approach.
