Sometimes, what constitues educational information can be ambiguous or confusing. Remember that everything mentioned in these instructional pages are guidelines only, and that going with your gut will probably be fine.

The general rule for anything wiki is: If something's educational it's always okay. "Educational", by wikispot's definition means "Instruction or training of the individual for the purpose of improving or developing his capabilities or the instruction of the public on subjects useful to the individual and beneficial to the community." That means that if it's relevant to the community or someone who might be trying to find information on the community then you're golden. Think about what you find personally interesting or helpful when editing, and that's a pretty good feeling to go off of when adding information.

What constitutes a "promotional tone" for business pages:

Remember: for tax purposes, wikispot has regulations against the promotion (and thus advertising) of for-profit businesses. What does this mean? It means that promotional flyers and advertisements are prohibited (unless they have historical value). While this isn't a neutral wiki by any means, business pages should be kept from the point of view of the community (third person POV, not first person), and pricing/item lists aren't necessarily a good idea unless you think it will be helpful to individuals in the community (i.e. X restaurant has a really cheap lunch special, Y cafe has a delicious drink, etc.).

Obviously, none of these guidelines apply to non-profit businesses (like goodwill or charities).

What constitutes historical information:

As we want to try and catalogue everything Nevada County, we want to try and also keep pages for businesses that have closed. If a business closes, instead of deleting the page, mark the business as closed. Similarly for annual events (like summer nights), instead of deleting past information to make way for more current information, just post the new information above the old. As the lists start getting longer, this may require a new page to catalogue old information. However, it is unnecessary to save information such as a business moving across town, or hour changes. In these cases feel free to replace outdated information with the new information.

If you have a specific question, feel free to ask about it, or discuss it wil other community members by either going to the NC Wiki FAQ or by creating a Talk Page.
