The Lake Merritt Labyrinth is a labyrinth in the grass between Lake Merritt and the Bellevue-Staten Building. It was created by Alex Champion, and was commissioned by the City of Oakland as a public art project in 1992. It received a $5,895 grant from the Cultural Arts Division. 1
By 2016, it had become overgrown. Carl Singer and other volunteers cleaned it up over a period of weekends. 1
