| Section 1 - The purposes for which [SCPL] is formed are: |
| 1. The specific and primary purposes are to maintain an association of |
| people interested in enriching and publicizing the resources of the library, |
| and to support library activities, programs, fund development, and |
| advocacy for the benefit of the Library system. |
| 2. The general purposes and powers are to secure cooperative action in |
| advancing the common purposes of its members, foster enjoyment of books |
| within the community, to support and promote activities aimed to develop |
| the Santa Cruz City/County Public Libraries as a constantly growing source |
| of education and culture. |

According to their web site, membership includes:
- Admission to the members-only preview reception, book sale, and Literary Basket Auction at the annual Santa Cruz Book Fair.
- A 10% discount at the Friends' Library Store located in our central branch downtown.
- A monthly Calendar of Events that lists library exhibits, weekly children's story times, special topic discussions, and all the rest of our unique programs for adults and children at your neighborhood branches!
- A semi-annual newsletter highlighting current news and issues (for the Friends and the libraries both) and upcoming special events."
From the website: "Donate gently used books to be resold by the Friends in branch lobby sales and at the Friends’ store. Due to limited staff, please bring your books & media to the Central branch for processing. Sorry … we do not accept encyclopedias (except some vintage sets), textbooks, homemade media (VHS, DVD, CDs or audio tapes), books that have been written in or have smoke or water damage, and magazines."
