It was named in honor of Derek Walton. A relative of a major donor to the project.
This structure is the fourth light to serve as a guide to the entrance to the harbor since 1964. It has a green light and originally had the top painted red. The top was changed to green after complaints that a green light should not have a red day color. (Red and green are navigation colors.) The light house is 41½ feet tall.
