The Greater Essex County District School Board

The G.E.C.D.S. board was formed on January 1, 1998 with the amalgamation of the Windsor and Essex County Boards of Education. It has schools in nine municipalities: Windsor, LaSalle, Amherstburg, Tecumseh, Lakeshore, Essex, Kingsville, Leamington and Pelee Island. As of 2013 the GECDSB operates 75 schools - 58 elementary schools and 17 secondary high schools plus an adult education program and three Agency schools. There is enrollment of approximately 34,000 students served by 4,500 employees. The Board's annual operating budget is more than $400 million.

The Director of Education, Ms. Erin Kelly, is supported by a group of 9 Superintendents. There are 10 Trustees which make up the Board of Trustees and they meet in public session once each month during the school year. The Chairperson is Ms. Julia Burgess.

The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board

As of September, 2013 the W.E.C.S.D board overseas 10 secondary schools and 36 elementary schools. For the year of 2013-2014, its elementary schools had an enrollment of 13,772 elementary school students (64% of total), 7791 secondary school students (36% of total) and 188 adult learners.  Staff numbers included 786 elementary staff, 510 secondary staff, 259 educational assistants and 570 non-teaching staff.  Its 2013-214 operating budget was $244,523,159 and its capital budget was $15,277,213.
