The Deaf and Hearing-Impaired Communities in the Yuba-Sutter area are the communities of people in the Yuba-Sutter area who are deaf or hearing-impaired. These communities include various groups of people who do not necessarily have much in common. For example, many deaf people, especially those who were born deaf or have been completely deaf for a long period of time, reject the notion that deafness is a disability or impairment. Others, especially those who have more recently and less completely lost their hearing, do consider themselves hearing-impaired and disabled.

People who reject the notion that deafness is a disability cite various advantages of Deaf culture over mainstream culture. They may point out, for example, that although sign language does vary somewhat from country to country, fluent signers can travel to many countries with many different native languages and make themselves reasonably well understood in basic conversations while people who can hear well are far more handicapped in their ability to communicate with speakers of other languages.
