“Raineri Curve” is the northern 90-degree turn connected to Big Moody Curve, featuring a northbound exit to Raineri Lane. This curve is the site of many spin-out and rollover accidents both northbound and southbound. It is especially hazardous on the northbound side because it is banked incorrectly and the turn sharpens mid-way through. The curve has a significant “bump” or rise at the southern end (closest to Big Moody) causing drivers to often over- or under-correct their steering. When wet, even after light precipitation, often 2-3 accidents a day occur just north of Raineri Lane.
Factors contributing to the danger include the concrete barriers on the side of the northbound lanes, which can act as a ramp which lifts out-of-control vehicles up, and the fact that Big Moody Curve is coated with a special safety surface that ends immediately before Raineri Curve giving drivers a false sense of control.
