Hometown Taiwanese Kitchen & Bar is a Chinese Food restaurant Downtown that specializes in Taiwanese dishes. The owners previously ran the popular Hometown Chinese Food. Since returning to Davis they switched their focus to Taiwanese food, but they still serve some of their more traditional Chinese dishes.

History

The owners: Jean and Steve LeeThe owners of Hometown Taiwanese Kitchen & Bar have been serving rustic, wholesome, and unpretentious Chinese/Taiwanese cuisine to the hungry students and residents of Davis for nearly two decades. Mr. Lee, known to his friends as Steve, and his wife Jean first opened the now closed Hometown Chinese Restaurant. Originally it was located on Lake Boulevard, now the current location of Shanghai Town. At the time, they were one of the few Restaurants that served both traditional and Americanized Chinese food. It then held a brief stint in Woodland but relocated back to South Davis at 1601 Research Park Drive inside South Davis Chevron. That location is now occupied by Four Seasons Gourmet. Unsatisfied with the South Davis location, Steve and Jean decided to lease a much larger facility in order to accommodate the growing popularity of the business. Hometown Chinese Restaurant moved to Mansion Square and held its grand opening on February 8th, 2010.

To the dismay of many, Hometown Chinese closed its doors in 2017 and many thought they had left Davis for good. Their new restaurant opened in 2018 with more of a emphasis on traditional Taiwanese cuisine.
