The North Elba Town Council is considering acquiring a property at 34 Brandy Brook Avenue, seen here in Saranac Lake on Friday, to demolish the existing home and build new housing there. (Enterprise photo — Lauren Yates),  Adirondack Daily Enterprise, March 4, 2023.Address: 34 Brandy Brook Avenue

Old Address: 155 River Street

Other names:

Year built: 1895 (tax map)

Other information: It was the home of Etta Anson Moody from c. 1900 through c. 1950. Benjamin O. Moody and his wife made their home with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Willard L. Utting, of 155 River street. It was across the street from the original Moody homestead at 150 River Street. The simple version of mansard style makes it about the same age as the former Post Office Pharmacy building and two of its neighbors on Main Street.

A photograph of this house was published in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise on August 26, 2015, captioned, "The village of Saranac Lake cited this house at 34 Brandy Brook Ave. as an unsafe structure, requiring it to be repaired or torn down, in June of 2014, but nothing has happened with it since then." The article titled, "Village seeks contractor for code enforcement help," states that a "vacant house at 34 Brandy Brook Ave. has been condemned for more than a year, but there it sits,  The grass and weeds have grown up around it, and a weathered foreclosure notice from Essex County, dated six months ago, is still stapled to its door." Jeremy Evans, then the village Community Development Director, said that properties like this are vacant for a reason. He mentioned this house as an example, saying that it was owned by Mary Handley until she died in 2011. "We have a home where there is no owner. The owner is deceased. There's no person who is responsible for it. It just has grass growing, and trees fell on the roof."

The Mary Handley named above may have been Willard Utting's sister "Molly" mentioned below.
