Beatrice B. Hall

Beatrice B. Hall passed away on April 1, 2023. She was born in Saranac Lake in 1923 and moved to Schenectady in 1980.

There were three cornerstones in Bea Hall's life: God, work, and family. Bea's relationship with God was very personal. She prayed every night and always believed that her prayers would be answered. Bea had an extraordinary work ethic and worked well into her 80s before her family convinced her to retire. She and her husband Don owned and operated Berkely Delicatessen. [sic] It was a popular restaurant for lunch in Saranac Lake in the 1960s and 1970s. People came from miles around to eat sandwiches on home-baked bread and to enjoy homemade pastries and pies. Bea loved to be outdoors and especially picking berries. Her hand-picked wild berries were used in the homemade pies and in the jams and preserves that she canned and sold. She was an accomplished knitter and was always making sweaters for all members of her family. But the true center of her life was her family. Don and Bea were devoted parents. They loved to spend time with their daughters and their friends. The family home in Saranac Lake was always open for them, and many a young friend was taken in, especially when they needed a safe and loving place to stay. Bea loved spending time with her daughters and their children, and it didn't matter where. It could be on a trip to Italy or France, or the house in Saranac Lake or at a local coffee shop. If her family was with her, Bea was happy.

She is survived by her three daughters: Barbara Hall (Ronald Comstock), Valerie Hall (Barbara Keshen), and Deborah Hatfield; her grandchildren Brett Hatfield and Ryan Hatfield; her great-granddaughter Charlotte Hatfield; and several nieces and nephews. Bea was predeceased by her husband Donald Hall and her three sisters: Lillian Nutter, Elizabeth Thiessen, and Lydia Boynton.
