Dale O. Coolan was a World War II veteran.  He was son a of Owen and Bertha (Nokes) Coolon.

SARANAC LAKE - Dale O. Coolon, 80, of the Trudeau Road, Saranac Lake, died Thursday, March 20, 1997 at the Adirondack Medical Center here.

Born May 1, 1916 in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Owen and Bertha (Nokes) Coolon. Mr. Coolon was a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake and was employed by the New York Central Railroad for 2 1 years, retiring as a section foreman. He worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital at Sunmount in Tupper Lake starting in 1961. He retired June 1, 1978.

He was a veteran from World War II serving with the U.S. Army; a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3357; the American Legion, Post 447; a member of the Saranac lake Fish and Game Club; the Keeseville-Saranac Lake Elks Lodge; and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Coolon was an avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, the former Eunice McDonald Harvey, whom he married on April 18, 1970; a daughter, Bertha Lord of Caroga; two stepsons and their wives, Neil and Mary Harvey and Gregg and Colleen Harvey, all of Saranac Lake; a stepdaughter and her husband, Lyn and Roger Hickok of Saranac Lake; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service. A graveside service will be announced in May.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Saranac Lake Adult Center in care of the Fortune Keough Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
