Florence Bennett operated several taverns.  She was a sister of Lloyd Bennett, known as Sparky.

Florence Gaffield Bennett

BLOOMINGDALE — Florence Gaffield Bennett, 86, of the Overlook Apartments, died this morning, Sept. 24, 1991, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born May 25, 1905 in Manchester, she was the daughter of Harry and Charity Gaffield. She owned and operated Sparky's Tavern in Loon Lake, and later the Rainbow Bar and Grill in Saranac Lake and the Pleasantview in Bloomingdale, retiring in 1970.

She had been a resident of the area since 1945.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jewel Foley of Bloomingdale and Mrs. Nancy Pandolfo of Saranac Lake; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by three, sisters and a brother.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale, with the Rev. Patrick Mundy officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will be in Merrillsville Cemetery in Loon Lake.
