SARANAC LAKE — Herbert H. Moody, 92, died Saturday, July 23, 1994 at the Adirondack Medical Center of Saranac Lake.  

Born June 20, 1902 in Saranac Lake, he was a son of Milo and Zita (Canty) Moody.

Mr. Moody had been a resident of Saranac Lake for most of his life. He was married to the former Betty Jean Harper, who died in 1971. He was employed as a corrections officer at Clinton Correctional Facility for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1971. For a short time, he had been a member of the Saranac Lake Police Department. He was the oldest surviving grandson of Cortez Moody, son of the first settler of Saranac Lake, Jacob Moody.

Survivors include two sons, Bernard of Saranac Lake and William of Rochester; a daughter, Mrs. Catherine MacDougal of Saranac Lake; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Leta Lincoln and a brother, Wesley Moody.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.
