James A. Fortune
James A. Fortune, 77, a former Saranac Lake funeral director, died at 6 a. m. Sunday at Placid Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Jan. 10.
Mr. Fortune was born in Saranac Lake on June 17, 1891, a son of Antoine and Abbie Ling Fortune. For many years he had the James A. Fortune Funeral Home on Woodruff Street and for the past 17 years had been associated with the North Pole at Wilmington.
In March of 1945 he was married to Leona Herbert who survives.
Mr. Fortune was Life Member No. 1 of the Saranac Lake Lodge 1508, BPOE and an Elks service for him will be held at the Fortune Funera1 Home this evening at 8 o'clock. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lawrence F. Selig, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating.
