GABRIELS - Marian F. Helms, 91, died at her home on June 9, 2001.

Born in Chasm Falls on Jan. 23, 1910, she was the daughter of Edmund and Caroline Bouyea Fountain.

On Jan. 5, 1932, she married. John J. Helms at St. Helen's Church in Chasm Falls. She and her husband worked for Dr. Francis B. Trudeau until they opened their own tourist home in Paul Smiths, known as “Pine Haven.” They ran the tourist home until it was destroyed by fire in 1977. John Helms died on May 15, 1979.

Mrs. Helms was an avid quilt-maker and had made a quilt for each family member.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands: Caroline Trudeau and her husband, Richard, of Saranac Lake, and Mary Ellen Salls and her husband Jerry, of Gabriels; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, George Fountain; of Paul Smiths; two sisters: Gladys King of Albuquerque, N.M. and Beatrice Prevost of Niagara Falls, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two grandchildren: Richard W. Trudeau and Carpi M. Sawyer; two sisters: Ruth Cherrier and Mildred Polzin, and three brothers: Warren, Herbert and Winfred Fountain.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12 at the Church of the Assumption in Gabriels. Interment will take place immediately following the Mass in Brighton Cemetery.
