Meet the Town was started by Thomas W. Sheridan in 1927.  In 1969, Jacques and Jeanne DeMattos took over the publication. In 1998, their son and daughter-in-law, Jacques and Alice, took over the business and ran it until 2007. In 2007 it was acquired by Andy Flynn and his wife. They published it from 2009 till 2014-2015. It then reverted back to Jacques. Around 2016 it was taken over by Joshua and Hannah Marlow.  One issue was published. At this time no one has published "Meet the Town".

Fifty Years Young

When the late Thomas W. Sheridan published the first issue of MEET THE TOWN in 1927, page 1 stated, “A Booklet dedicated to the purpose of convincing the visitor that Saranac Lake and ‘hospitality’ are synonymous." Fifty years later that objective still holds.

In addition to the description of various motor trips, churches, fraternal organizations (most being as valid today as 50 years ago), the reader pauses to reflect on the passing of the Adirondack Civic Association, Inc., organized in 1924 to promote Adirondack interests; sportsmen's organizations such as the Saranac Lake Boat and Waterways Club, Saranac Lake Amateur Skating Association, Saranac Lake Curling Club, Adirondack Fair and Driving Association, and the Izaak Walton League, Saranac Chapter No. 43, all given more than a passing reference.

Of the 47 advertisers in 1927, four are still in business today: Clinton J. Ayres, T. F. Finnigan, Hotel Saranac and Walsh's.

Jacques Demattos is currently selling back issues of Meet the Town.
