The legend "Patton Hall" appears on a 1913 map of Upper Saranac Lake at the north end of Buck Island.  No information has been found confirming the existence of such a  building or camp, but it would seem possible that the island was once owned by people named "Patton" and "Hall," such as Henry Patton and his brother David of the Everton Lumber Company. That there were lumbermen of those names operating in the area at that time is attested by the following news item:
