2 GAS STATIONS BURGLARIZED IN BLOOMINGDALE

BLOOMINGDALE, April 3— Two service stations in this village were broken into early yesterday morning and a total of $40 was stolen by the thieves.

The gas stations involved in the burglaries were the Simpson Service station and Benware’s station.

Both are located right in the village with Simpson’s station directly across from Baldwin’s Drug store. It is operated by Mayroe D. Simpson.

The second is situated just around the corner on the main road to Vermontville and stands next to Norman’s store across from the St. Armand Town hall. Alfred Benware operates the station.

State Police, who are investigating the crime, place the time of the robberies as sometime after midnight on Thursday night.

Conscience hurt for 20 years

BLOOMINGDALE - Augie Simpson, who used to operate a service station in Bloomingdale, received a letter with a sum of money, Saturday. The letter read, “Money owed you for many years; you had a gas station.”

According to Simpson, he had filled a customer's tank, and the customer asked to charge it. Simpson agreed and never heard from the customer again — until Saturday.

The time interval was something in excess of 20 years.

Simpson is happy “there are still honest people left in this country.”
