Lamar Stuart 408-483-3182 (cell)
I’d like to recommend Mr. Lamar Stuart if you need a handy man. He’s honest, competent, clean, diligent and hard working. He just finished working in our home for about 5 hours doing all kinds of things that needed to be done, i.e. recaulking our kitchen sink, changing a bunch of different filters, installing some security gates, etc. He’s also worked for us before, putting in new drapes and rods. His cell phone number: 1-408-483-3182. You may call him or text him. If you decide to give him a call, please mention my name.

W.D. Andrews at Andrews Enterprises 650.302.0480 cell
W.D. (who is also a contractor) has been fixing things for me for years. He is reasonable in price, completely honest, creative and a perfectionist if I want one. He has taken care of many issues for me in a most satisfactory way. I have recommended him to several neighbors who have also been very satisfied.

Bill Dryer
I used Bill to adjust cabinet drawers and install some trim in my kitchen and baseboard in a closet. He did a very nice job, and even pre-painted the baseboard before installing. Hourly rate is very reasonable. He's also very kind - we had been discussing his love of gardening while he worked, and when he returned the 2nd day, he brought me tomatoes and zucchini from his own garden.

Les Winger &/or Bob Klawuhn
I used Les & Bob to install a ceiling fan in my bathroom, and they also sheetrocked the bathroom ceiling. They were friendly, efficient and did a nice job, and rates were reasonable.

Albert Torres
650-215-0520
Mr. Torres installed a water heater for me. He gave me a good price, did an excellent job including removing and disposing of the old one, upgrading the plumbing, and doing the earthquake upgrades, and cleaning up after the job. He speaks excellent English, explained the job and answered my questions thoroughly. In addition to plumbing, his handout sheet says he does kitchen and bath remodeling, electrical, sheetrock, painting, flooring, sprinkler system installation, gutter cleaning. He has a helper who works with him for moving heavy stuff (like my old water heater!).

According to the SJ Mercury News on 5/19/05, the Avenidas handyman program for seniors is expanding. Dayne Hale
We have hired Dayne for painting projects and repairing our garage door. He is very meticulous, and if necessary takes more time than he had budgeted for to get the job done just right. Plus he is a great guy. Farukh on Ruth Avenue

Home repairs, big and small.
Update 9/23/11: We just hired Dayne for the second time to do a wide range of repairs. He has done all manner of painting for us; put a new ceiling in our bathroom; installed a new sidelight by the front door; rectified a mildew problem under the kitchen sink; caulked our (Eichler) ceiling-board seams; and done all kinds of repairs to our home. He is very friendly, meticulous, caring, and reliable. I highly recommend him. Joel Orr, joel.orr (at) gmail.com
Jim Lyons

jimlyonsdesign.com
We had Jim Lyons come out to do some work for us based on the recommendation on the Wiki. Our experience wasn't as good as the recommender's. Jim's a nice guy (and a real talker), but he came late both days that he worked for us. Plus, on a day he was scheduled to work at our house, he phoned shortly before he was expected, saying that he wouldn't be coming that day. His reasoning made sense, but I would have liked more notice.
In terms of the quality of the work, I wasn't all that impressed. He seems somewhat impulsive and tended to jump into a task without fully exploring the options with me. This resulted in some things needing to be redone, which was frustrating.
