Boot and Shoe Service - Oakland

Boot and Shoe Service is a fancyish pizza-oriented restaurant in the Lakeshore neighborhood. It is owned by Charlie Hallowell who also owns Pizzaiolo in Temescal and Penrose on Grand. Opened to extreme hype in 2009 in a former shoe repair shop next door to Walden Pond Books, it has now added a cafe to its main restaurant. Wait times can be overwhelming and the pizza is only "pretty good" given the wait, extreme shared tables (elbow to elbow, people), and price (prepare to cry when looking at the cocktail menu). But hey, it was featured in the New York Times.

They also have a cafe which is open from 7AM-2PM on T-Fri and 8AM-2PM on Sat-Sun. Since Boot and Shoe is right next door to Walden Pond Books, a sample pastime can include buying a book at Walden Pond and enjoying a cup of coffee from the Boot and Shoe cafe.

Boot and Shoe Service was the recipient of the East Bay Express Best Service in a Restaurant Award in 2013.

Won 2014 "Readers' Choice" Best Cocktails in Oakland Magazine.
