by Burnt PixelMaxine Hong Kingston (born October 27, 1940) is an author of a number of notable works about gender and ethnicity, and a professor emerita at U. C. Berkeley.
In the early 1960's Ms. Kingston earned her teaching credentials from University of California, Berkeley, then went on to work at Oakland Technical High School as a student teacher. From 1965 to 1967 she taught both math and English at Oakland Tech, as well as working at Sunset High School in Hayward, California.
In 2014, Kingston was awarded the National Medal of Arts from President Obama.
