Oakland Wiki Taxonomy

U.S. Highway 50 was created in 1926, originally extending from Maryland to Sacramento. By 1931, there was talk of extending it to the Bay via Tracy and Dublin, with Oakland the western terminus. 1

In the mid-1930s, Hopkins Street (now MacArthur Boulevard) had become part of U.S. 50. When the Bay Bridge opened in 1936, U.S. 50 was extended over it. 2

When MacArthur Boulevard was created in 1942, it followed U.S. 50, combining Hopkins and other streets.
