This was a chain of fast food restaurants that started in Southern California (where many fast food places began) in 1961. Many people have said that Pioneer Chicken had better tasting and larger pieces of chicken than any other fast food chicken outlets.
The old Santa Cruz location is now a Taco Bell, while the Watsonville location is now Hong Kong Express.
In the 1990's the company was sold to AFC Enterprises. Most of the locations became Popeye's Chicken.
