2010-04-12 13:40:18 I am shocked at the departures. I moved to SC in 1965 left there in 1986. Back in '65 it was very very boring. I used to work at the Impossible, very nice French lady owned it, that was about 1981/82. Anyone recall the name of OT Prices's before it was OT's? The Tip Top Cafe on Mission is no longer there, I worked for Bobbie and Earl about 7 or so years, great people. There were a few bars down on Pacific ave. that are now gone, I can't recall the names. Spiveys restaraunt was on the corner of Ocean and Water way back in '65, it was torn down about 1980 or so for the then new Home Savings. Garbini's Italian was on Soquel Dr. close to OT Prices. Seems like there was an Italian place, Facelli's I think, up on the west side close to Wrigley's. —76.14.124.112
[Garbini's was on the corner of Soquel Drive and 41st Avenue. (It is now --in 2012-- a paint store. [Building razed in 2020.]) The city law that required downtown bars to serve food ended a few bars.- Harlan]
2010-09-16 11:28:16 My Mom used to go to the Sticky Wicket in Aptos. I googled it and Bruce Bratton has a nice write up about it. All this news, all at once is overwhelming. I lived in Santa Cruz for over 30 years (1952 - 1986). I visit regularly but had no idea that some of these business no longer exist! How sad but Santa Cruz is still a wonderful place. You should add the "Old" Catalyst, the one on River Street since it changed dramatically once it relocated. Turning from a coffeehouse atmosphere into more of a nightclub. 2011-02-15 09:32:40 What was the name of that TV station/studio that used to be on Soquel Drive back in the 1970s? It was in the building next to Burger King (used to be Herfy's) with Taco Bell (was a Pioneer Chicken) on the other side — and the "Eureka Federal" Bank across the street where the Post Office is now (which was actually a Liquor Barn)... [ There was a cable TV office and studio in that area. At the time it was TeleprompTer Cable. (Note the extra Capital T.) They later moved to Water Street and moved again toward the downtown area. Then they lost the Santa Cruz County franchise. The company was later bought by Group W (Westinghouse).Eureka Federal was a separate building than the Liquor Barn/Post Office. Eureka Federal had a few name changes. It is now US Bank. -- Harlan]

2023-08-16 12:00:00 Does anyone remember the name of the computer store in the building adjacent to the 41st Avenue mall that was there in the early 1980s? I think the address was 1955 41st Avenue. They sold Apple and Atari computers, and the owners were the nicest people on Earth. I was an adolescent and visited the store as often as I could; computers were so new and so exciting at the time. I would love to find out what happened to the store owners.
