Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan, had been the 20th largest S&L in the nation.

The Capitola office was first. Later the branch at 806 Ocean was built. In 1979 Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan started losing money. Federal regulators approved Citicorp's acquisition of the failed Fidelity Savings of San Francisco in September 1982. It was the first cross-industry merger over state lines to be approved by federal regulators. The branches became Citicorp Savings.

In March 1990, Citicorp announced plans to change the names of its Citicorp Savings subsidiaries in California and other states to "Citibank, Federal Savings Bank." This was an effort to distance itself from the other Savings & Loan that were failing. In 2002 Citicorp bought West National Association which owned California Federal. Citibank then moved into the Cal Fed branch in Capitola. The branch at 3820 Capitola Road was sold to Bank of the West. The Ocean Avenue branch was close and became commercial real estate. There were several stores in that location until it became a branch of Bank of America.
