Rio Del Mar Boulevard starts near the beach in Aptos and the addresses continue for 1.2 miles to Highway 1. The road keeps the name as it crosses over the freeway until it junctions with Soquel Drive and Rio Del Mar Boulevard becomes South Polo Drive.Rio Del Mar Boulevard is the major road in the Rio Del Mar area.

History
The name "Rio Del Mar" is Spanish for "River of the Sea." It was coined in the 1920's to promote an area for real estate. There is no body of water by the name of Rio Del Mar. There is the unincorporated populated place called Rio Del Mar, Rio Del Mar Beach, and places like Rio Del Mar Boulevard, Rio Del Mar Elementary School and Rio Del Mar Mexican Cuisine (which is actually in Aptos).
Businesses
Deer Park Marketplace, serves as the central business district of Rio Del Mar. Rio Del Mar is a residential community.
Seascape Golf Club was first named Rio Del Mar Country Club when it was started in 1926. The address is actually in Aptos, with parts of the course in Rio Del Mar.
Transportation
Santa Cruz Metro Transit bus route 55 serves Rio Del Mar as well as Capitola, and Aptos. Children who ride the bus to school from Rio Del Mar are required to have a bus pass from the school district. In 2010, it is an annual fee of $10.
