As a joke, someone make a bunch of stickers of surf boards. Several pedestrian crossing signs near the beach were made to look like "surfer crossing" signs. The city has the right to have any type of crossing sign. (There are official surfer crossing signs in Hawaii.) The modified signs were not in compliance with sign standards. The signs were allowed to remain until they were replaced with standard pedestrian crossing signs or removed all together.
