The 3M Company, formerly known as the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, is a Maplewood-based company that produces more than 55,000 products, including: adhesives, abrasives, laminates, passive fire protection, dental products, electronic materials, medical products, car-care products, electronic circuits and optical films. It is a Fortune 100 company, is listed on the Dow Jones, annually has $30 billion in sales and employs 84,000 people worldwide.
3M was founded in Two Harbors, Minnesota, in 1902 by five businessmen. Originally a mining venture, it was unsuccessful. It wasnt until William L. McKnight, joined the company in 1907, and A. G. Bush joined in 1909 that 3M started becoming successful.
