First Street (also spelled 1st Street) runs north-south between Beamer Street and Hays Street, slightly east of College Street.

Along the way, it passes by Beamer Elementary School, Woodland Public Library, Yolo County Clerk Recorder, Yolo County Public Administration, Woodland Fire Museum, City Hall, City Code Enforcement, Las Brasas, The Burger Saloon, Embellish Decor & Gifts, Corner Drug, Poppy Salon, Top Hat Barbers, Gallery Coffee Roasters, Dog Gone Wine, Jerry Cloutier's Used Books, KLJ Studios, Kitchen428 Restaurant & Mojo’s Lounge, Doggeros Mex Urban Eats, Makoto Kai, the Gable Mansion, Flor Evenstart Preschool Program, Woodland Adult Education, and Douglass Middle School.
First Street has been planted with street trees by the city. The street trees include three invasive weed species: Purple-leaf Plum/Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera), Flowering Pear/Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana), and Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia 'Purple Robe'). However, they also include Valley Oak (Quercus lobata), which is native to Woodland, and three species native to other parts of California: Western Hackberry (Celtis reticulata), Modesto Ash/Arizona Ash (Fraxinus velutina) and California Fan Palm (Washingtonia filifera).
