The entrance on it's second day in business.The twelve-screen Cinemark Southland Center and XD is a movie theater at Southland Center which will feature reclining lounge seats and a large-screen "XD" auditorium, among others. The site was previously occupied by Mervyn's. Demolition of that building took place in April 2015. The theater opened on April 21, 2016 (after being pushed back from the original fall 2015 and later March 2016 targets). As of November 2015, the former Mervyn's court has already been renamed the "Cinemark Court" and between November 2015 and late February 2016 a "Pop-Up Theater" was temporarily set up in it, and as of March 2016 signs were already put up. It's opening ushered in a new era of movies at Southland, the original ended in 1999 when the AMC Southland 4 Theaters closed.
The Cinemark Southland Center development was originally announced in July 2014.

Cinemark coming to Southland Center as another theater chain picks Taylor, The News-Herald, July 2, 2014
Cinemark Holdings will be opening a 12-screen all-digital theater at Southland Center in the former Mervyn’s store space after reaching an agreement with Rouse Properties, which owns the mall. The theater auditorium will feature “Cinemark’s NextGen cinema design concept and XD auditorium” according to a release by Rouse. The XD auditorium is Cinemark’s premier large screen concept that offers the ultimate viewing experience with an oversize, wall-to-wall and ceiling-to-floor screen and a custom JBL sound system featuring digital sound and digital images in 2D and RealD 3D pictures.

Officially called Southland Mall 12, the theater is a nearly $9 million investment that will feature 12 screens, fully reclining leather loungers and an “XD auditorium,” which includes oversized, wall-to-wall and ceiling-to-floor screen, similar to an IMAX experience in both picture and sound. “This is a state of the art theater,” Sollars said in rebuttal. “It will be a very different movie-going experience for the Downriver community.” Cinemark’s opening is just a small part of a revival at Southland Center and what Taylor officials call the Eureka Road corridor.
To celebrate the grand opening, Cinemark will offer swag bags full of movie-themed items to the first 50 people who buy a ticket on April 21, 22 and 23. An opening time has not yet been set. Each day also will feature a chance to win free movie tickets for a year, and radio stations will be on site broadcasting live shows. On April 22, the theater has planned entertainment for children from 2-4 p.m. with a face painter, Willie T Clown and the theater’s mascot Front Row Joe.
The first ticket was torn at Cinemark Southland Center April 20 with a VIP night ahead of the new theater’s grand opening in Taylor. Droves of theater-goers experienced Cinemark for free at the VIP night, which included a round of free films, popcorn and soft drinks.
