The Korean-American community in the Yuba-Sutter area has given rise to a Korean karate academy and several Korean churches.

History

From 1913 to 1952, the Alien Land Law prevented Korean immigrants from owning land in California. During World War II, Korean-Americans in California were forcibly removed from their homes and locked in Japanese American internment camps. The Korean-Americans were considered Japanese because Korea was occupied by Japan during the war. Internment was popular among many white farmers, who saw internment as a convenient means of eliminating Japanese-American and Korean-American farmers from their competition.
