Casey Nguyen was an ASUCD Senator from December 2014 to December 2015. From Spring 2015 to Fall 2015 she served as the Chair of the ASUCD Senate Asian Pacific Islander (API) Caucus.
Casey double-majored in Community and Regional Development and Asian American Studies. In addition to her work in ASUCD, she also served as the West Coast Asian Pacific Islander Student Union (WCAPSU) Co-Director and the Cross-Cultural Center (CCC) API Community Coordinator in her senior year. Before that, she was heavily involved at the Student Recruitment and Retention Center (SRRC) working closely with the Southeast Asian, Pilipin@-American, Asian Pacific Islander, and graduate student communities as a community development and retention coordinator. Prior to running for Senate, Casey also served as the Vice-Chair of the Ethnic and Cultural Affairs Commission and intern to Senator Robyn Huey. Casey is very passionate about her work with students at UC Davis and is dedicated to strengthening the campus community.

"My name is Casey Nguyen, hailing from the Bay Area. I’m a third year double majoring in Community and Regional Development and Asian American Studies. I am running to be your next ASUCD Senator because I want to make sure that as a student, you are being heard and advocated for!
I am running with S.M.A.R.T. - Students Matter: Activism, Retention, Teamwork, because I have a passion for student advocacy. I believe in the power of community organizing and social justice activism.
During my time at UC Davis, I have worked constantly to improve student life on campus for underrepresented and underserved communities. I strive to build united communities, foster communication across differences, and make sure that students have a voice in the decisions that affect our daily lives. I have worked and will continue to work towards meeting the needs of all students because I have the knowledge, the drive, and the passion to guarantee things will happen. I am continuing my work by serving as the current Asian Pacific American Theme House Cultural Programmer, Vice Chair of the Ethnic and Cultural Affairs Commission, and intern to Senator Robyn Huey.
As a senator, I will work towards enhancing student life in the following ways:
CREATING AN EARLY ACADEMIC PROBATION AND SUBJECT TO DISMISSAL WARNING SYSTEM
With the current system, students have no way of knowing whether or not they are on Academic Probation (AP) or Subject Dismissal (SD) until it’s too late. I want to create an early AP and SD warning system that notifies students ahead of time, so that they can take the preventative measures to ensure that they remain in good academic standing. I am already working with Brett McFarlane, the Director of Academic Advising, to make sure this system will be implemented and active through my.ucdavis.edu and other student advising portals.
EXPANDING SEXUAL ASSAULT AND SEXUAL HARASSMENT RESOURCES ON CAMPUS
UC Davis is ranked number 1 for the most reported sexual assault cases in the state of California and number 5 in the nation. All students have the right to feel safe and secure in their living and learning environments. I will collaborate with various departments and organizations to make sure that campus resources are pushing for preventative initiatives when aiming to reduce the amount of sexual assault and sexual harassment cases. Although there are resources already available on campus, not many students are aware of them. They are simply not accessible. I will be working with the Campus Violence Prevention Program, the Harassment & Discrimination Assistance and Prevention Program, the ASUCD Sexual Assault Awareness & Advocacy Committee, and many other partners in the fight for increasing education and decreasing assaults.

During Casey's term, she served as Chair of the Senate Asian Pacific Islander Caucus from Spring to Fall 2015. Fortunately she had Alex Lee as her Vice-Chair and best friend.
She accomplished some things during her term as well.
