[From the police blotter] On Sept 14, 1946, 3:30pm: Mrs. Edythe Smith, Silver Laundry, came in and reported an accident on Main Street in front of the Enterprise office. She was riding her horse when he stepped on a manhole cover in front of the Enterprise office and the cover of. The horse's right rear leg went into the hole, tearing the leg badly. Also, the right front leg and stomach have cuts and bruises. Took a look at the horse and he is in a bad way. Is now at Ed LaBounty's. Took Mrs. Smiih to the hospital, for she had landed on her head when the horse went down. She will see lawyer McCormick in the morning. Trying to get a hold of Dr. Bouton but no luck. 4:35 p.m.: Dr. Gedroiz called and said Mrs. Smith suffered a severe brain concussion and fractured skull and they are taking X-rays of her head and shoulders. Will tell us how it comes out.
