William C. Shackett sold "radio receiving sets" from a shop at 18 Main Street in 1923; by 1926 he had moved the shop to 8 Dorsey Street. In 1933, he sold Oldsmobiles at 8 Dorsey Street. In 1937, he was acting as a contractor in the building of an extension to the Petrova School to house the Fresh Air school.

In 1933 he operated the William C. Shackett Battery Station at 8 Dorsey Street. In 1936, he operated Shackett's Super Service Auto/Gas at 16 Bloomingdale Avenue. In 1938 he operated Shackett's Battery & Ignition Service Electrical Shop at 48 Main Street. In 1948, he listed himself in the village directory as a flight instructor.
