This mural of a California Quail is across the street from the Foothill Square mall in East Oakland on the corner of 108th Avenue and MacArthur Blvd. You can see it from the Subway Sandwich Shop. There are California Poppies and a butterfly in the mural. The California Quail is our state bird and the California Poppy is our state flower. The wall is flat but the mural was done so that it seems as though you are looking through a layer of bricks.
The mural is by Dan Fontes and Caroline Stern and was painted in 2011 on the side of the HAART methadone clinic that wanted to help clean up the blight (see article).
