Mary Jane Thompson (1822-1904) was the mother of Mary R. Smith. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, but lived in Oakland with her daughter and son-in-law F.M. Smith the last 30 years of her life.

OAKLAND, Jan. 15.— Mrs. Mary Jane Thompson, mother of Mrs. F. M. Smith of Arbor Villa, East Oakland, died to-day at the age of 82 years. She had been living in Oakland with her daughter for thirty years and death came to-day from old age. She was born in Brooklyn, N. Y., on January 1, 1822, of English parentage and was related to several prominent families of New York. The funeral will be strictly private and the remains will be cremated. She leaves but one child, Mrs. F. M. Smith.

Funeral From Arbor Villa
OAKLAND, Jan. 17.— The funeral of Mrs. Mary J. Thompson, mother of Mrs. F. M. Smith, was held this afternoon at 2 o’clock from Arbor Villa, the Smith residence, in East Oakland. The Rev. Charles R. Brown, pastor of the First Congregational Church, and the Rev. J. K. McLean officiated. The body was incinerated at the Oakland Crematory.
