Views of the Monterey Bay and the Santa Cruz Mountains from all angles are abundant at Castle Rock State Park, which is one of the highest elevation spots in Santa Cruz County. Rock Climbers have an endless variety of rocks to climb in the park, with Castle Rock and Goat Rock being the two most popular spots. A person doesn't have to be an expert athlete to enjoy the park, though, both Castle Rock and Castle Rock Falls are just short hikes from the parking lot (less than a 3 mile roundtrip hike). For an overnight stay, Backpackers can start from the parking lot to make the 3.2 mile trip to Castle Rock Trail Camp or they can leave the park on their way to the ocean as part a much longer trek when backpacking the Skyline to the Sea Trail. Also located within the park are the headwaters of the San Lorenzo River.
