Francis Tong owned and operated several successful Chinese Restaurants restaurants in the area, including The Riverside, The Szechuan Diner (located on Soquel Avenue across from the old metro center), and Chef Tong's, which had two locations. He also bottled and sold his own self-named Bon Bon sauce, wrote a cookbook, and produced the TV show Cook Along with Chef Tong. He passed away in 1984.
