Radar imagery from the National Weather Service.

The strongest storm of the past decade is supposed to happen on December 10th-11th, 2014.  Winds are expected to reach up to 35mph, with speeds around 70mph possible at high altitudes.  The storm acquired the hashtag #BayAreaStorm and #hellastorm on social media.

The National Weather Service has said the strongest of the winds will occur between 8am-1pm on Thursday the 11th, and that between 4 and 6 inches of rain is expected.

What's going to happen?

  • The power might go out.  Make sure you have some flashlights and some food you can cook without power!
  • Trees are going to get knocked over, making it difficult for cars and buses to move around, and possible damaging houses. Even trees with deep roots may be knocked over because the amount of rain predicted could cause soil liquefaction.
  • Streets will flood, due to blocked storm drains and our street's funky hills and curves.
