The Twin Cities typically refers to Minneapolis and St. Paul.  However, it is very common for the Twin Cities to refer to these cities and the larger metro area, including the Suburbs.  The metro area consists of over 3.3 million people and is the 16th largest metro in the United States. The larger U.S. Census combined statistical area called Minneapolis-St. Paul-St. Cloud, MN-WI has a population of 3,615,902 people as of the 2010 Census, making it the 13th most populous in the U.S.
