Keystone Avenue is the invisible keystone around which the city of Woodland was built. It's invisible because it doesn't actually exist. But the idea of it exists and is the most important street in all of Woodland. Even more important than Main Street, which has a terribly dull and boring tendency to actually exist.
. . . Okay, seriously, though. West Keystone Avenue and East Keystone Avenue do exist. Together, they run between North College Street and Woodland Avenue, intersecting Palm Avenue in a roundabout with Beamer Circle Park in the center of the roundabout.
West Keystone Avenue becomes East Keystone Avenue when it passes east of Palm Avenue.
However, West Keystone Avenue and East Keystone Avenue are the only two streets in Woodland that have compass directions in their names* without being accompanied by another street that has the same name without the compass direction added. This is because they are also the only two streets in Woodland that get the word "East" or "West" added to their names at a location other than when passing west of West Street or east of East Street.
*The compass directions in street names must be separate words for any of these rules to apply. Streets such as Northwood Drive, Southwood Drive, Westwood Way, and Westway Drive are exempt from having their names mean much of anything about their locations in town.
West Keystone Avenue
West Keystone Avenue runs between North College Street and Palm Avenue, intersecting Yolo Street, Hollister Road, and Pershing Avenue.
West Keystone Avenue has been planted with street trees by the city. The street trees include two invasive weed species: Purple-leaf Plum/Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera) and Flowering Pear/Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana). Other non-native street trees on West Keystone Avenue include Chinese Pistache (Pistacia chinensis) and London Plane (Platanus × hispanica).
East Keystone Avenue
East Keystone Avenue runs between Palm Avenue and Woodland Avenue, intersecting Bliss Avenue and Hollister Road.
East Keystone Avenue has been planted with street trees by the city. The street trees include Trident Maple (Acer buergerianum), Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis), Kentucky Coffeetree (Gymnocladus dioicus), Chinese Pistache (Pistacia chinensis), and London Plane (Platanus × hispanica).
