The iconic sign of the Thunderbird Lodge...or is it the "Thunderbi odge"?

Quality Inn Thunderbird Lodge is a budget motel in Chico with an iconic sign dating back to 1966 that many Chicoans regard as an important landmark. In fact, the City of Chico considers it a sign of some historical import. No sign of this kind is in compliance with the city's Sign Ordinance any longer. The Thunderbird sign is permitted because it is grandfathered in. In 2008, million dollar renovations began at the hotel which temporarily reduced the number of available beds. Upon completion of the renovations, the name changed to reflect its part of the Quality Inn company.

Amenities at the Thunderbird Lodge include free continental breakfast, free wireless internet, free local calls, and free coffee. The site has a pool, a business center, coin-op laundry and parking available. Each room includes a microwave, refrigerator, safe, coffee maker, hair dryer, work desk, television, and iron with ironing board. Some rooms have a hot tub. Check in time is 3:00pm, check out time is 11:00am.

The lodge is on the outskirts of downtown. But Shubert's, The Pageant Theatre, and Chico Natural Foods are absolutely within walking distance.
