Burt and Goodspeed Millinery occupied the ground floor shop of the Ledger Block at the corner of Broadway and Woodruff Street (c. 1905) Burt and Goodspeed Millinery was a hat shop in the Ledger Block at 23 Broadway in the early 1900s. The owners of the Ledger Block lived at 18 Academy Street, two doors down from William and Abby Burt and Miss Gertrude Goodspeed. 1 They are mentioned in the February 4, 1909 Adirondack Enterprise.

Fire started in the New York Millinery store on Broadway in Saranac Lake village Saturday evening but was extinguished after a hard fight by the fire department. The weather was intensely cold which made difficult the work of the fire men. The loss is estimated at about $1,500. The same building was gutted by fire last August.
