Temescal Creek in Fernwood
CC SA-BY Our Oakland

Temescal Creek flow was stopped in 1866 by Anthony Chabot with the damming of the reservoir, now Lake Temescal.

The creek starts in the hills above Thornhill Road in Montclair, through Fernwood and into Lake Temescal. Several smaller creeks including Harwood (Claremont) Creek and Vicente Creek feed into Temescal Creek.

The small stream now meanders behind homes along Chabot Road and Claremont Ave before disappearing into a culvert under the intersection of 51st and Telegraph.

The area along the creek on 51st was known as Humboldt Park, with a garden and riffle shooting gallery.
