Interstate 94 runs east-west through extreme northern Downriver, through Romulus, Taylor and Allen Park. Major cities to the east are Detroit and Port Huron; major cities heading west are Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, Jackson, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, Gary and Chicago. Beyond Chicago, I-94 continues all the way west to southeastern Montana. Notable landmarks include the Gateway Bridge and the Uniroyal Tire.

Exits 198 and 199 were originally separate exits, but in 1996 were combined into a single exit onto a collector road that connects to both interchanges. Prior to the construction of I-275, there was an Exit 193 connecting to Northline Road.
