Born out of student activism and political struggle, the UC Davis Cross Cultural Center provides a culturally relevant community space where student voices can be expressed and respected. The CCC cultivates critical consciousness and cultural competency by providing learning opportunities at the crossroads of the many aspects of our identities and experiences.  By embracing our cultural and intellectual heritage, the CCC supports student leadership in advancing our collective vision for community empowerment and social justice.

The creation of the center came about after a hunger strike in 1990 by 4 students: Ahmanal Dorsey, Jose Quinones, Gopal Dayaneni, and Andrea Gaytan.  The center was one on a list of agreements the University committed to in reaction to the strike and opened in the Fall of 1992 after a two-year planning process.  A photo of the hunger strikers sits above the front desk of Cross Cultural Center to remember our origins as a community center.  On January 9, 2012, the CCC moved to the first floor of the Student Community Center.  There are often displays artwork in the front Art Lounge and hallway that is reflective of the CCC mission.  Any current undergraduate, graduate, staff, faculty, or community member may apply to submit art to be displayed in the center.  We invite you to make use of our library, Art Lounge, P.E.A.C.E. Lounge, and Conference Room. Volunteer opportunities are available.

See our Culture Days and Retreats page for more details on events.  In addition, take a look at our Graduate Students of Color (GSoC) Mentor Program for Graduate Students who are interested in getting more involved with the CCC.  Another great way to get involved with the center is the P.E.A.C.E program.  For those more musically inclined, Danzantes Del Alma is a great opportunity to celebrate traditional dances of Mexico and contemporary dances of the Chicanx/Latinx experience.

Students of Diverse Affiliations (SoDA) is a coalition of registered student organizations on campus affiliated with the CCC.  Being a CCC affiliate means your organization will be able to get extra support from the CCC, including program advising, event planning, networking opportunities, and publicity resources.  With our support, being a CCC Affiliate will give you the extra edge to being a successful and well-organized student group on the UC Davis campus.

The CCC embraces six core values to guide our work: advocacy, cultural competency, community building, academic excellence research and education, identity exploration, and leadership development.  We also have an extensive library of reading materials by faculty and noted authors in the area of multiculturalism.  Everyone is welcome at the CCC.  For students in need of support or counseling, CAN counselor Dr. Tatum Phan is available.

The Cross Cultural Center also provides grants to individual students presenting at a recognized academic research conference, symposium, or leadership conference.  Student organizations, and campus departments that support the mission of the Cross Cultural Center are also encouraged to apply.  Grant application deadlines for the 2015-2016 academic year are:
